Hello guys,
This is going to be a review/head to head comparison for the Gelaskins and Gelascreens compared to the Decal Girl. The nice people at both companies were polite enough to donate a couple of samples for reviewal. I am not paid or affiliated in any way with either of these companies. I am just a reviewer for new and innovative products and cases for electronics.
Where to start? How about Decal Girl first? So I’ve had the Decal Girl for about two weeks on my iPhone and I think this case is great. This skin is made up of two parts-front and back. It adds a great artistic touch to the iPhone 3G and it does protect your phone from any scratches that may occur. Although I wouldn’t prefer this case on its own, it does do the job. It has a very smooth feeling to it and it doesn’t add much bulk. I think the cut for the front of the iPhone is very precise as it leaves spaces for those sensors beside the speaker. The cut for the back, however, is not as great. Application was a breeze and there was no frustration involved. I think it’s a great product to stylize the iPhone and protect it from scratches, but this case would definitely have to be paired with something, perhaps leather or a silicone case to protect it from drops. The only cons about the Decal Girl are that the cut on the back is very basic, so it doesn’t fully protect the iPhone 3G from scratches, and the screen is bare. I wish they would’ve made two separate parts to the front-the rim of the screen covering the speaker area and button area and a clear part to apply directly on the screen. Other than that, I think this is a great skin.
On the other hand, the Gelaskin and Gelascreen that I applied onto the iPhone 3G four weeks ago was also a great product. I actually preferred the quality of Gelaskins since they were thicker adding more protection against drops, but it did make it harder to apply and the skin did stick out a little more. The Gelaskins has more of a square pattern on the skin itself which is pretty noticeable. The cut for this skin is still pretty basic but it is a little more detailed than the Decal Girl since the skins extends until the chrome bevel without covering the volume and vibrate switches. The Gelaskins only come with a back, which is disappointing, but it does include a screen protector, otherwise known as a Gelascreen. The Gelascreen comes with two screen protectors and a microfiber cloth. I think the Gelascreen is a great product with lots of potential. It was very easy to apply, just like the Gelaskin, and it was probably the smoothest, most unnoticeable screen shield I have ever installed on my phone. Enough said. I must say that both of these products are great. Although the Gelaskins is a little bit thicker than the Decal Girl, it pars up in protection. They are both easy to install, but the Decal Girl is noticeably easier to install. I would not suggest using either of these cases to be used without a hard case or something of that nature. Both products are very stylish and have some kick ass designs, which depends solely on your palate. The Gelascreens is my favourite screen protector and is sold separately from the Gelaskins. The Decal Girl goes for $6.99 and the Gelaskin, $14.95. The Gelascreen is $12.95. All three are relatively cheap and decision is yours. This is just my two cents. Peace.
